Who am I?
Head of Practice Education and Apprenticeships (Nursing and Midwifery). Faculty of Health and Social Care, Edge Hill University I completed my RSCN/RGN training at Alder Hey Hospital. I then worked at The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital progressing my career though the hierarchy to a management position. During my career I also completed midwifery training and Advanced Clinical Practitioner training at Liverpool University. I have experience in a variety of clinical settings in both local and regional services.
In 2003 I became a children and young people’s nurse lecturer at the University at Salford and eventually the Head of Children’s Nursing. I also led the Advanced Clinical Practice multi-professional programme. More recently I accepted my current role at Edge Hill University. My role includes working closely with our practice partners and ensuring the provision of high-quality education and experiences for our next generation of clinical staff. I am passionate about the provision of excellence in care for children and families and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital holds a special place in my heart.
What do I bring to this role?
I bring my insight into the journey for nurses and other health professionals and how this can impact upon care delivery. My experience at all levels of care delivery along with my exposure to the perspectives of clinical staff, educator and service user provide me with a solid background and authentic voice. I recognise quality in organisations and my experience in the evaluation of services and extensive quality governance will inform my perceptions. I have two children who are now young adults and have experienced the service user viewpoint. I aim to use my experience to provide a considered voice for children and families and those who care for them in a compassionate and knowledgeable manner.
