At Alder Hey we have more than 56 clinical specialities delivering outstanding care to children with routine illness, through to those with complex and rare conditions. These include:
Cancer treatment
Alder Hey is a designated Centre of Excellence for cancer treatment, caring for more than 120 children and young people with cancer, every year.
Cardiac
We provide highly specialised care for paediatric patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), including diagnostics, catheter interventions and surgeries. We carry out approximately 450 major heart operations and 400 keyhole interventions every year.
Neurosurgery
We provide surgical treatment for children and young people with brain and spine disorders, performing over 600 surgeries each year and seeing approximately 4,000 outpatients, treating children across the UK and beyond.
Craniofacial surgery
The NHS has designated Alder Hey as one of only four hospitals in England and Wales who have the required infrastructure, expertise and experience to treat rare craniofacial conditions.
Paediatric General Surgery, Neonatal Surgery and Urology
This is one of the largest departments in Europe with 15 consultant surgeons dedicated to the full spectrum of the subspecialties including Thoracic Surgery, Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Oncological Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, General Surgery of Childhood and Intestinal Failure Surgery. The Department is one of the largest in the UK dealing with complex Urological Surgery including major bladder reconstruction and complex hypospadias surgery. The Department deploys minimal invasive surgery in all its subspecialty units and is one of the leading Major Trauma units in the North West of England.
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
We offer specialist services to support children and young people, up to the age of 18, who are experiencing mental health difficulties. We also provide support to their families or carers.
