Alder Hey has signed a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding agreement with Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The agreement enables both partners to collaborate on enhancing specific clinical services, expanding the research portfolio and developing a Children’s Hospital Healthcare Innovation Centre, which aims to become the largest in South Asia.
Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, is the oldest hospital in Vietnam and the second largest and most specialised hospital in Vietnam. It has a capacity of 1,800 beds.
A special ceremony was held at the historic Ho Chi Minh City Hall, attended by Mr. Marcus Winsley, Deputy Ambassador of the British Embassy in Vietnam, the Vice-Chairman of the HCMC People Committee, and the Director of the Department of Health.

The partnership was signed by Prof Rafael Guerrero, MD, FRCS(CTh), Director of Alder Hey Children’s Global Health, representing John Grinnell, Chief Executive of Alder Hey and Prof Nguyen Thanh Hung, MD, Director of Children’s Hospital 1.
This collaboration highlights Alder Hey’s global recognition as a leading children’s hospital renowned for its exceptional care, pioneering clinical work, and status as one of the world’s top innovation centres.
Alder Hey’s Global Health Department has been established to foster mutually beneficial and practical relationships with providers of paediatric healthcare and treatment, as well as their communities, in other countries worldwide.
