Congratulations to Professor Simon Kenny who has been awarded an OBE for services to Paediatric Surgery in the New Year’s Honours List.
Simon has been a consultant paediatric and neonatal surgeon at Alder Hey since 2003 with a specialist interest in urology and lower gastrointestinal surgery where he has introduced advanced minimally invasive paediatric surgery. As Clinical Director, Simon played a key part in the hospital’s redevelopment, ensuring a smooth transition to our award-winning state-of-the-art new hospital in 2015.
Since 2017 he has been National Clinical Lead for Paediatric Surgery in the ‘Getting It Right First Time’ programme which has led to significant quality improvements in children’s surgery.
I am honoured and deeply humbled to be named in the King’s New Year Honours List 2024. Although this award is for me, none of this would have been possible without the hard work, commitment and support of the fantastic teams I work with both at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and NHS England.”
Professor Simon Kenny OBE
He was appointed as National Clinical Director for Children and Young People at NHS England in 2019. During the pandemic he coordinated the development of clinical guidance and leading efforts to mitigate the impact on children. In 2021 he provided national leadership for a system wide response to an unseasonal rise in RSV infections in children. Since his appointment, he has driven the establishment of the Children and Young People’s Transformation Programme, emphasising evidence-based improvements for obesity, asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes and developing integrated care for children and young people
On behalf of everyone at Alder Hey, congratulations Simon!
