On Wednesday 30th November 2022, we hosted our Christmas Light Switch On event live from our hospital atrium for the first time since 2019.
Before the main event, we had some wonderful choir performances from the pupils at St. Julie’s Catholic High School and St. Paul’s and St. Timothy’s Catholic Infant School. We also heard all about baby Frankie, who had life changing surgery and was cared for by our Neonatal team here at Alder Hey. Then we heard the amazing story of Zlata…
Four year Zlata was brought to the UK by her mum Alina as they fled the war in Ukraine. Zlata has leukemia and is being treated at Alder Hey.
As is custom at Alder Hey, there was also some fun mixed in, as we caught up with a couple of naughty elves who had been causing mischief around the hospital. We also had some special Christmas messages from our special Alder Hey friends.
Then it was time for the official countdown to our switch on, which was lead by the brilliant Jay and Gemma from The Guide. Zlata was invited as our special guest and was given the honours of officially launching Christmas at Alder Hey!
If you missed any of the live broadcast, you can the watch the whole thing back right now. Simply click play on the below video.
The festive fun doesn’t just end with our switch on, however. We’ll have some great Christmas photos, videos and more going out on all of our social media channels. There will also be a daily surprise on our online advent calendar at christmas.alderhey.nhs.uk so be sure to check that out, too!
On behalf of everyone at Alder Hey, we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas!
