This leaflet aims to provide you with information about how to care for your child once you are at home.
- After discharge, your child may still experience pain or discomfort. If so, please give
painkillers provided by the hospital as you have been directed to. Do not exceed the
recommended dose for your child. - To help your child stay comfortable, we suggest they wear loose clothing that will not rub
against the site of operation. - Keep the wound site clean and dry.
- Your child should stay away from school until they are walking normally and
wearing their usual clothing comfortably. - Your child should avoid P.E., games, swimming or any other strenuous
activity for two weeks. - If, after discharge, your child develops a temperature, or you notice any redness, swelling,
unusual discharge from the wound, or if your child develops constipation or diarrhoea, then
contact your GP, district nurse, or hospital. - Give your child a normal balanced diet, unless otherwise advised to do so.
