17th Mar 2021

Alder Hey are delighted to have won two awards at the prestigious 2020 HSJ Awards.

Held entirely virtually and hosted by the amazing Lenny Henry and Victoria Derbyshire, The HSJ Awards are not just a celebration of success stories, but also a platform to shape the future of the NHS. The HSJ Awards continues to be the most esteemed accolade of healthcare service excellence in the UK and we are honoured to have received two awards.

Alder Hey won the following awards at this year’s ceremony:

Alder Hey was shortlisted for this award due to our commitment to be a Global Digital Exemplar in the healthcare space. Since 2017, we have been a part of an elite group of NHS hospital trusts to drive new ways of using digital technology in the NHS. Alder Hey is the only specialist children’s NHS Trust to be selected to be a digital exemplar. Alder Hey has also reached HIMSS 6 Accreditation, the second highest accreditation of its kind and a symbol of Alder Hey’s commitment to digital excellence.

Staff Engagement Award - WINNERS

Alder Hey was shortlisted for the Staff Engagement Award thanks to the ‘Flourishing in Adversity: a showcase of staff engagement at individual, departmental, divisional, and Trust level in and around times of crisis’ campaign. Our ambition for staff engagement at Alder Hey was to implement organic ideas for all staff to thrive and heal. Our core Trust values of openness and together underpin our compassionate initiatives that, through involvement, put staff stories at their heart. These include our new Staff Advice and Liaison Service (SALS), online Team Time storytelling, Ground TRUTH feedback tools, and our in-house Strong Foundations leadership programme. Staff feedback, actions, and outcomes indicate the value of these initiatives. Through internal growth, we’ve had external reach that has spread regionally and nationally.

Shining a light on colleagues

Following one of the most demanding years on record for the NHS, this year’s virtual ceremony shone a light on the outstanding efforts and achievements that teams across the sector have delivered. At Alder Hey, we will continue to work and develop to provide the best possible care to children and young people in Merseyside, the North West, and beyond for years to come.

A massive well done to all of our colleagues who made this possible with their unbelievable hard work at the most difficult of times. You have all made the Alder Hey Family incredibly proud.
