Donna Doyle, catering manager here at Alder Hey, was chosen as one of the “Corona Heroes” for the 2020 Blackpool Illuminations Virtual Switch-On ceremony on Friday 4th September.
Seven different NHS staff members were picked from across the North West of the England. As part of being chosen as a corona hero Donna flipped the famous switch at the prestigious virtual switch on event, the closed set was in the Tower Ballroom with famous faces such as, Ashley and Jordan Banjo, Blackpool-born singer-songwriter Rae Morris, and the Illuminations’ creative curator Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen hosting.
This year’s theme is Bring on the Light, celebrating the diligent work of the NHS, key workers, and other outstanding individuals during the coronavirus pandemic. The hour long streamed event also included star studded at-home performances from Melanie C, Becky Hill, Fleur East, Tom Grennen, Joel Corry, and Diversity.
Donna said: "I’m honoured to have been chosen for this opportunity, I feel that because I haven’t really dealt with any covid-19 patients there are people that are more deserving. However I have helped and supported those people who have treated our covid19 patients through this difficult time."
