Back in February, Alder Hey Children’s Charity Community Fundraiser Adam Dixon and friend Liam Culshaw, a Scrub Practitioner at Alder Hey were delighted to secure a place in the Great North Run.
Disappointed, but not disheartened after the event was cancelled due to Covid, the friends decided to undertake their own calendar club running challenge to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Charity’s 7in10 Children’s Mental Health Appeal.
Starting with 1km on the 1st July, Adam, Liam and friend Vic, cumulatively increased the distance by a km each day up to 31km on the last day of the month.
Adam explained “Completing the #CalendarClub challenge is definitely the most physically and mentally demanding challenge I have done. I always knew I would complete it as I wouldn’t have attempted it otherwise, but there is always that voice inside your head saying ‘quit’, especially in the final week. Being able to support our new 7in10 Children’s Mental Health campaign is such an honour. Thank you to everyone who donated, we were able to raise such a fantastic amount. On to the next one…”
Cath Harding, Head of Community Fundraising said “Adam, Liam and Vic have completed an amazing challenge – the equivalent of running 11 marathons in once calendar month. They’ve raised an incredible £3902.27 to date which will go towards the £3milion fundraising target for the Charity’s 7in10 Appeal to enhance inpatient and community mental health services at the hospital. Legends!”
