Bringing Back Your Springfield Park: Development Update

22nd Jul 2022

Alder Hey and Liverpool City Council are committed to returning Springfield Park to you, the local community, and local residents, so it can be fully enjoyed by you once more.

Over recent months we have been working closely together to set out and agree a plan to return the park in the Summer of 2023, ahead of the previously stated date of November 2023. The following provides an update on what we’ve achieved so far and outlines our plan to return the park to you.

Bringing you up to date
  • The first phase of Springfield Park has been successfully returned. Improvements to the grassed areas in terms of rotovating, fertilising and re-seeding has brought the greenery back to life across this area. Work on the second phase is well underway, with a target completion date of Summer 2023, when it will be returned to the community and local residents. (Please see diagram 1.)

  • At the request of Liverpool Planning Authorities (LPA), plans for the Multi Use Gaming Area (MUGA) have been adjusted to move the Gaming Area marginally over (please see diagram 2 below). These adjusted plans have been submitted to LPA for approval. Once given, we are ready to move to construction as quickly as is practicably possible.

  • A plan to empty the Catkin building, which is currently located on what will be reinstated park land, has been agreed. The plan is to move approximately 100 Alder Hey staff off site and to re-locate another 120 into different locations on site. Temporary modular office accommodation is being constructed on the Trust site to allow for the Catkin building to be emptied and demolished more quickly. (Please see diagram 3 below.)
