Changes to our parking charges

20th Aug 2020

Access to hospital parking has been free to all visitors to Alder Hey during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, as many of our services begin to return to normal, we have made the decision to re-introduce charges to visitors at our on-site car parks from 1st September 2020.  This is in line with practice in other NHS Trusts and the first rise in parking charges at Alder Hey since 2017.

The first 30 minutes of parking and disabled parking for blue badge holders remains free to visitors to the hospital (token should be validated at the hospital atrium concierge desk). Visitors of long stay patients are also eligible for a discounted rate.

After 30 minutes charges to parking are applied at an hourly rate. The new rate is:

Time Tariff
0-30 mins Free
Under 2 hours £3.00
2-6 hours £4.00
6-8 hours £5.00
8-24 hours £7.00

Parking rates have increased slightly to account for inflationary rises and to contribute to increased maintenance costs and investments made to improve parking infrastructure. However they remain in line with parking charges already in place at other local hospitals and were originally due to come into effect in March 2020, but were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Income received from parking charges will help cover costs incurred to run and maintain the Trust’s car parks.

Long-stay patients will be allowed to park for free after obtaining a pass from our car parking team in the Hospital atrium (available for 7 or 30 days), whilst disabled parking for blue badge holders remains free to visitors to the site (token should be validated at the atrium concierge desk).

For all other visitors upon entering the multi-storey car park you will receive a yellow token.

To pay for your parking, please insert you’re token into the yellow payment machines situated in the atrium of the hospital before leaving the hospital.

Access to car parking tokens is available until 7pm Monday-Friday and 3pm Saturday-Sunday from the car park desk at concierge in the Hospital atrium.
