We are delighted to announce that Adjunct Associate Professor Nicki Murdock has been appointed as our new Medical Director, taking over from Steve Ryan, who retired last month. She will join us in January 2019.
Nicki is currently the Executive Director Medical Services at Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service in Australia and is an ex-President of the Paediatrics and Child Health Division of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. After training in the UK she became a Fellow of the UK Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and then FRACGP, FRACP and FRACMA.
A senior medical leader with qualifications in Paediatrics, General Practice and Medical Administration Nicki qualified in 1983 at Southampton University. She has held the post of Executive Medical Director at a number of hospitals in Australia and has led State wide medical reviews and chaired a number of specialist steering groups.
In Nicki we have attracted an individual of calibre to join our outstanding team at Alder Hey. We were very fortunate to have had immensely high quality applicants with wide experience to be our next Medical Director, and Nicki’s approach, focusing on courage, collaboration, visibility and transparency in leadership impressed our interview panel.
We are looking forward to working with Nicki to continue the journey we have all started towards delivering world-leading services for our children and young people.
With very best wishes,
Louise Sheperd CBE Sir David Henshaw
Chief Executive Chairman
“Alder Hey’s reputation as a specialist Trust and as a leader in research and innovation is immensely exciting to me and I am honoured to be appointed its next Medical Director.
I know that I am joining at an exciting time when the focus is on quality improvement, and developing partnerships both in the UK and across the world. I am eager to play my part as one of a team acknowledged for its Outstanding Care, not just in Liverpool or the UK, but internationally.
I look forward to being a part of the next stage of the journey towards greater excellence in the care of children, young adults and their families wherever they may live.”
