Alder Hey is holding a hackathon in the park based around health and wellbeing for children, families and staff involved their care. A hackathon is an event that brings together experts from a range of backgrounds who collaborate to develop solutions and products to issues and problems pitched by participants.
If you have an interest or understanding of children’s health challenges, we hope you will consider registering to be part of this vibrant event.
You will have the opportunity to pitch a 30 second problem that impacts on health and wellbeing in children, and later join teams created to develop solutions to the chosen problems.
We have invited a range of health and well-being experts, technology teams, engineers, web designers, commercial gurus and green fingered/activity-centred community enterprises to help to create these solutions.
Register for FutureFest at Alder Hey now – we have limited places. For more information please contact Abbey.Gore@alderhey.nhs.uk
FutureFest will be the second Hackathon we have run at Alder Hey.
Last November, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Alder Hey hosted the UK’s first children’s healthcare hackathon.
The winning team was headed up by Pauline Brown (Alder Hey’s Acting Deputy Director of Nursing) and originated with a problem around sores developing on children with cannulas.
A Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) team joined up with Pauline’s team, and pitched the idea/solution to integrate a sensor into a dressing. Pauline, a number of lead nurses and the quality team worked with the university team over the two days to develop the solution ready for a Dragons Den style pitch to five expert judges.
The idea was so successful that judges voted it as the winner. The idea is now in development in partnership with LJMU.
