We were delighted to begin demolition works on the old Catkin building in February. The demolition works are set to be complete by April. The land will then be flattened and the final phase of parkland restored.
The area where the old Catkin building sits will become home to a new children's play area. The wheelchair access seesaw, kindly donated by Friends of Springfield Park, will be relocated from the old playground to sit alongside additional accessible equipment within the new play area.
The Substation 5 building, which was used to provide power to the old Catkin building, will also be demolished. Liverpool City Council and Alder Hey have seriously considered options for keeping the substation, following requests from the community. Due to the substation not forming part of the approved planning requirement for the park, alongside the need to demolish it to enable the return of 9.4 hectares of parkland ot the community, the decision was taken to not retain the building.
