Dr Kailish Sah retires

A consummate professional, caring, compassionate and a good friend of STCML, Dr Kailash Sah retires!

Nepal’s first paediatric oncologist Dr Kailash Sah was trained at Alder Hey in 1997 under the guidance of Prof Pizer at Alder Hey children’s hospital in Liverpool. Support was also given to other staff.

Dr Sah and Prof Pizer are now helping two new consultants Dr Bishnu Rath Giri and Dr Sudhir Pankaj with clear aims, including the improvement in recording of data, the introduction of multi-disciplinary team meetings, common treatment regimens, supportive care guidelines across the unit and the development of locally affordable treatment protocols.

We are all very sad to see Kailash Sah leave Kanti he has performed magnificently over many years in establishing services for children and young people with cancer.  He has made an incredible difference to so many lives.  As well as his contribution to Kanti, we know that he has made a real difference to Kanti as a hospital and thus helped all the children that has passed through its doors.

Although he will not be at the hospital on a day to day basis, we are sure that he will have a long-lasting influence over oncology at Kanti.  We hope that with his inspiration the two young oncologists will continue to further develop the unit.

We all wish him the very best.
