Leading SDR surgeon shares knowledge in Banglore
Last month, leading Alder Hey surgeon Benedetta Pettorini was invited to the Narayana Paediatric Neurosurgery Course in Bangalore, India.
The course touched the basics of most paediatric neurosurgery fields and was attended by over 100 delegates, mostly a combination of senior trainees and consultants. All senior paediatric neurosurgeons in India were in attendance.
Benedetta was asked to share her experience in setting up a selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) service, as they are in the process of starting their own service in India.
Benedetta also reviewed patients with them and the plan is for her to remotely help them in selecting more, with the aim of going back to Bangalore and helping with the surgery. She has also been invited as guest speaker at the next Indian Neurosurgery Conference.
Speaking about the experience she had during her time in India, Benedetta said; "It was an enlightening experience to touch base with a very different health system and I was honoured to have been asked to take part of it."
