Over 10,000 young people leave the care system in the UK each year, often without the connections or resources needed to thrive in the workplace. At Alder Hey, we are deeply committed to bridging this gap by partnering with organisations across Cheshire, Merseyside, and beyond to support young people with care experience. Through health, well-being, and pre-employment initiatives, we aim to help them unlock their potential and thrive.
Care Experience Awareness Week
In alignment with National Care Leavers’ Awareness Week, we recognise and honour the resilience and strength of individuals who have grown up in care. Many of these young people have faced profound challenges, including family breakdown, abuse, neglect, and separation from familiar support systems. Such experiences often impact their journey toward financial stability, education, and mental health. Yet, with the right support, individuals with care experience bring unique perspectives and valuable skills to the workplace, including resilience, adaptability, and determination.
Alder Hey’s Academy is proud to offer resources that help young people with care experience find their paths to success. Our programs include career workshops, mentoring, pre-employment guidance, and work experience placements across various NHS roles. By providing these opportunities, we empower these individuals to recognise and develop their valuable, transferrable skills.
Get Involved
We invite individuals, businesses, and community members to support our initiatives by helping young people understand career pathways, offering work experience placements, or mentoring through pre-employment stages. Together, we can provide meaningful opportunities to help them transition successfully into the workforce.
