Getting to Alder Hey Children's Hospital

mapp.pngThe Alder Hey campus is situated in the West Derby area of Liverpool, a five-minute drive from the M62 and is easily accessible by public transport.

You can get directions to Alder Hey from Google Maps.

Sat nav – Main entrance

The main entrance to Alder Hey is on East Prescot Road. If you’re travelling by car, please use the postcode L14 5AB.

Cars should enter the hospital site from East Prescot Road and use the drop-off facilities near the East Prescot Road entrance, or use the multi-storey car park, which has its own entrance to the hospital via the lifts/stairs. 

Sat nav - the Emergency Department

To access the Emergency Department by car, access via Eaton Road where there is a short stay car park and drop-off facility. Please use sat-nav postcode L12 2AP. 

Car Parking

Please note: There is a height restriction of 2.2m for our multi-storey car park.

Charges to parking are applied at an hourly rate. These new tariffs (active from 1st September 2020) bring us in line with the parking charges already in place at other local hospitals:

When entering the multi-storey car park, you will receive a yellow token. To pay, please insert your token into the yellow payment machines situated in the atrium of the hospital.

Long-stay patients are eligible for a discounted rate for parking. Visitors can purchase a 30 day pass for £30 for one month’s unlimited access or £7 for seven consecutive days.

You can purchase a pass via the car park helpdesk, which you can find on the main reception desk in the hospital atrium. 

Any income generated through parking is used to cover any costs incurred to run and maintain the multi-storey car park. Any remainder will be invested back into our hospital services.

Drop off

There is a drop off section on East Prescot Road, which can be used for pick up and drop off only. Maximum wait time in the drop off area in 20 minutes. Taxis can also be taken from here.

Catkin Building Parking

Parking is located directly below the new Catkin Building. To find your way, please use the postcode L12 2AP for sat-navs to enter the site via the A&E entrance off Eaton Road. 

You will see a sign to your right that directs you to the Catkin Building, please follow the signage to the car park. Find more information, and tutorial videos of how to get to Catkin, here.

PLEASE NOTE – this car park is for use by patients and families using services based in the Catkin Building only and parking will be monitored.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

To avoid issues with accessing the multi-storey car park, please use the entrance on Eaton Road and park large wheelchair accessible vehicles there. You'll find several WAV parking bays on your right hand side as you turn in, just outside of our Institute building. 

Blue Badge holders

There are dedicated car parking spaces for Blue Badge holders between the Lower Ground and 2nd floor of our multi-storey car park. Please ensure a Blue Badge is clearly displayed when parking in a dedicated Blue Badge bay. Blue Badge holders are not required to pay for on-site parking at the hospital.
