What to bring

What to bring

Knowing you’re coming to hospital can be stressful. It’s easy to forget the little things that might make your family’s stay easier so we’ve collected plenty of expert advice from parents who have visited us before.

Kerry’s son Tyler had open heart surgery at Alder Hey and Kerry said: “After spending so much time at Alder Hey I have plenty of tips for other parents facing similar, impossibly difficult situations, but the most important thing to keep with you at all times is hope and strength.”

Kerry’s advice and top tips

  • There are parent beds next to every patient bed on our wards. If you’re going to need long term accommodation then ask about Ronald McDonald House. It's free to stay and if you can get a room then all your essentials are covered – bed, wardrobe, plug sockets and a private bathroom.
  • Inside the hospital there are food outlets and coffee shops where you can buy all sorts. You can get magazines, sweets, cards, teddies and loads more too!
  • If the restaurant doesn’t have what you fancy or you need a bit of fresh air, there are other shops nearby. Eaton Road has a Chinese takeaway and a nice little chippy! There’s also a Sainsbury’s and Aldi in walking distance.
