Assessment Process

Assessment Process

In light of COVID-19, the NHS has turned to remote consultations in order to minimise the risk of infection for staff and patients.  Remote consultations also reduce the distress and anxiety of Children and Young people attending an appointment with professional in personal protective equipment.   The ASD Team have a clear assessment process for ASD which adheres to the NICE guidance and aims to deliver a conclusion within 30 weeks of referral.

Over the last few months, our ASD team have worked extremely hard to providing the majority of assessment process virtually (not face-to-face) to ensure timely diagnosis.  Remote consultations have been received positively by our Children & Young People, Parents and Carers.

We are now recommencing face-to-face appointments, but only for those assessments that cannot be carried out virtually.  Alder Hey ensures a thorough checklist and assessment process is in place to identify which patients these appointments are suitable for.
