Below you’ll find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions that we get from children and young people. Don’t see an answer to your question or worry? No problem. Simply go to our worry box and tell us what’s on your mind.
What should I do if I get lost?
If you get lost while you’re at Alder Hey, you should tell a member of staff straight away. Look for someone in a coloured uniform or wearing a name badge.
Do I need to wear a mask?
If you are in the hospital atrium, our outpatients department, or any of our community sites, you will not need to wear a mask. If you on the wards or in our Emergency Department, you will need to wear a mask unless exempt.
Will I have to sleep in a room by myself?
No. There is another bed in the room for a parent to stay the night with you.
Is there WiFi?
Yes. There is free to use WiFi all over the hospital and our other buildings. You can connect to it on your phone or tablet.
Are there any toys to play with?
You’ll find play areas with toys in most of our waiting areas in the hospital. If you’re staying with us on a ward, there is a play area at the end of every ward which has lots of toys to play with.
What if I get hungry?
If you’re visiting our hospital, you’ll find plenty of places to get something to eat including our restaurant, a WHSmith store (which includes a Marks and Spencer outlet) and a Costa Coffee. If you’re staying on a ward, you can ask one of our ward chefs to cook you a meal that you like.
Can my friends come to visit me in hospital?
To help protect you, your family, and our staff, we only allow a few close family visitors. In some special cases you may be allowed more visitors, if agreed by the ward manager.
Will there be a TV in my room?
Every room on our wards has a TV, so you can watch your favourite channels while you’re with us. If you’re only with us for an appointment, you’ll find TVs in the waiting areas.
